Wake me up when September ends...

Oh wait... It's pretty much done... (ba-dum-psh) In just 3 weeks, the Mega Mini Monster Mash gallery will open at the Art Institute in Santa Ana!  I've put a map here on the right.

It'll be a one night event with art, vendors, food, and fun activities! I'll have a couple of pieces in the gallery and I'm sure you'll see me floating around and gushing at all the awesome artists vending at the Artist Lodge event.

And in November, I'll be at Designer Con in Pasadena sharing a booth with my lovely friend Diana!

It's a new day + month + theme!

Hello world~ It's a new month (eep! AUGUST?!) and the beginning of something new.  If you follow me on Instagram, you know I've been (fairly) good at posting a drawing a day! It's not much, but I'm actually quite proud of this...  Unfortunately, July got the better of me.  But I think it was for the best.  I'm feeling rested and ready to get that daily drawing habit back up and running!

The last daily draw I completed was the month of June, and that one was immensely fun!  I also was quite proud of how the whole set looked.  I smell a little book in the works. ;)

August is shaping up to be a busy one as well as I prep for Long Beach Comic Con!  It will be at the Long Beach Convention Center September 2-3.  I'm gonna try my darn-toot'n-est to get some new prints and originals ready for you guys!

And if you swing by my Instagram, I'm starting a new ~witchy~ theme this month in preparation for the Mega Mini Monster Mash Gallery at the Fan*Alley Artist Lodge on October 2nd!! I want to keep challenging myself to expand and grow as an artist so I'll be using this opportunity to push my creativity. *success pose!*

Day 1 of my #MyEnchantedAugust daily draw theme!

And just around the corner from that is Designer Con in November!! *phew* I always felt like I worked best under pressure, so there's no shortage here.

Oh, and if you can't make it to an event... I have also re-opened my online shop! (GASP! I KNOW!!)  It's currently home to just a few select prints, but I'm hoping to add a few more bits and bobs as soon as I figure out how to manage shipping. ;P Let me know if there's something you'd like to see in the shop!  I also have a lot of grandiose ideas for other types of merch, so stay tuned for that announcement!

Thanks for reading! (。♥‿♥。)

Girl POW-er!

Hello friends!  I'm so excited to announce a new project I'm involved in! Her-POW! New Adventures of Vintage Comic Book Heroines!

It is a crowd-funding campaign via Seed & Spark to get some wonderful vintage FEMALE heroes to star in their own short films.  In the golden and silver age of comics (1940s-1950s) these bad-ass ladies headlined their own comic strips.  Here's a bit about the project:

Thanks to the internet, many of these strips can now be found online. And thanks to many of these characters falling into the public domain, these amazing heroines can now return for new adventures!
Of the over 75 characters we identified in the public domain, our writers chose three for our first round of filmmaking. They are: The Woman in Red, The Veiled Avenger, and Ghost Woman. (We will share more about each of these characters in updates as this campaign progresses.)
Each of these fantastic heroines will be the star of a short film, which will serve as either a proof of concept for a feature, or the pilot of a webseries. These shorts will be uploaded to the internet for public consumption as soon as they are finished, so we can spread the word and share the love.

Vicarious Films is asking for your help to see their vision come alive!  And here's where I come in!  One of the incentives for backing the project will be a new original illustration of the Veiled Avenger by yours truly. (insert gif of my shoulder shimmy here)  Or if you are so inclined, there are several other fab female illustrators on their line-up!

I really hope you're able to support this project if not through backing, then spreading the word would be greatly appreciated!  If things go SUPER (wink) there may even be a second print run down the line!

Hey it's Update Time!

Hello Blogosphere!  So many things have happened in the past couple of months & especially the past few weeks! ⌒°(❛ᴗ❛)°⌒

First off, I just came back from a EuroTrip like 4 days ago. I feel really lucky to be able to travel and have these great experiences.  It was so much fun, and I can already tell I'll be reliving the whole thing through my photos.  ⊂((・▽・))⊃

I didn't get a chance to post about it much here, but I attended and tabled at my first ever Long Beach Comic Con this past weekend!!!!!  If you follow me on Instagram, I posted a few updates and needless to say, I had a FANTASTIC first time.  In fact, I had SUCH a great first experience that I'll be there again next year!! YAAASSSSS!!!!! (*•̀ᴗ•́*)و ̑̑

No lie though, I'm pretty sure I fell asleep with my eyes closed during the few quiet moments.  Hahahaha...  I was super jet-lagged after arriving home just 1.5 days before the event, but seeing familiar faces and positive reactions from people enjoying my artwork was a super energy boost like no other.

Day 1 at my table!

Day 1 at my table!

Not only was LBCC a lot of fun, but it was also a great learning experience.  I'll be making a few changes to my setup and also trying to better manage my online store.  It is currently empty and ready for an overhaul, but hopefully I'll get it back up and running soon.

Some mini originals I painted on-site.  I'll be putting the bottom 3 and a few more in my store soon! SOOOONNNN!!!

In other news, I can't say enough good things about the stickers I got from StickerMule.  They were a pretty big hit and the quality is just top notch.  If anyone out there is looking to get some made, I highly recommend them. ;)

One last thing, I've made a Facebook page specifically for my art stuff!  I'll be posting sneak peeks, event updates, and a few little surprise goodies here and there.  It'd be great if you could swing by and hit the like button. ;)

Phew!  That was a lot of words to go through.  Thanks for reading and see you all in November for Designer Con!

It's event season!

Hey y'all... If you follow me on Instagram, chances are you've seen this already, but I also wanted to post this here for funsies. ;)

And in case you haven't perused recently, I added a couple of pieces to the illustration gallery.  I'll be updating some more as the weeks progress.  I have a few series in mind that I'd like to explore and a few series that I *ahem* had honestly kind of forgotten about.

Speaking of forgetting... I realize I never posted the full image of my Sailor Moon piece that I did last month, so here it is in its full glory!  I'll have prints of these at the events listed above.  Along with a few different goodies. :)  Experimentation is scary and anxiety-inducing, but I think it'll be worth it in the end.

Hello? It's me... Have you wondered after all these months, of what you used to see?

Art, that is...  And a lack of it!  That's definitely my bad.  I've definitely missed my personal posting schedule, but I want to look at it as a lesson learned.  I think I work better on a daily doodle schedule and will continue that from now on.

I will still continue to post more finished illustrations, but I will post them a bit more sporadically.  I think my self-imposed weekly timeline was doing more harm than good and got me down more often than not.

With that in mind, here's a piece called Gemini.  Because nothing explains my restless, impulsive, indecision better than my zodiac sign. ;P

And also... you know... boobs.

And also... you know... boobs.

I made a promise to myself to draw more this year, and to also put more effort in those pieces.  So here's to that!

Gossamer Thoughts

I feel my thoughts have been insubstantial as of late.  I'm not quite sure which direction to go, and I'm surprised that it hasn't spiraled out of control.  I usually like structure, and schedules, and having a plan of action.  And having a contingency plan if that fails.  I tend to overthink... And worry about overthinking... Which makes me sooooo indecisive about my art.

Honestly, this week's theme had stumped me until about 5 hours ago.  My husband suggested "Imagination".  What a wonderful and daunting word to visualize.  But in the end, what felt right was something more organic and cathartic with a few colors, a series of blended textures and a simple silhouette.

The Best Laid Plans

We are 10 days into the new year, and 2016 has already taught me a valuable lesson.  Sometimes the best thing to do when you're stuck is to just start over.  I've seen the "new year, new me" meme floating around, and I know I'm part of that crowd.  But I can't help but like the idea of a clean slate and a clear "start" to something new.  Except, somehow, it's always been a difficult concept for me artwork-wise.

My main art resolution was to focus on finishing illustrations, and instead of posting a daily doodle, that I'd try for a more polished piece per week.  And let's just say that the struggle is real.  I feel like I have been so far removed from the illustration side of things (gallery pieces not-withstanding), that I'm still trying to find my groove to get back on the regular side of an art routine.

This is what a contrived idea looks like people.  I'm hoping to learn to recognize this for what it is so that I may avoid it in future projects.  (Or at least learn to maneuver around the humps.)

This is what a contrived idea looks like people.  I'm hoping to learn to recognize this for what it is so that I may avoid it in future projects.  (Or at least learn to maneuver around the humps.)

I found myself forcing an idea into fruition, and it just was not happening.  Evidenced above by my 4 attempts at formulating this sketch into something resembling the idea in my head... and failing.  Not to say that failure is a bad thing.  I'm still trying to get the hang of it as a potential lesson to learn from and not a detrimental foe to be rendered immobile by.

So with that in mind, here's the first official "art" post of the year!  She's nowhere near perfect.  And even as I tried to finish strong, the ink gods were against me.  (Hello, I see you giant blobs... You are bright and shiny and fat.)  But I'm happy with where she's at for now.  I've accepted her as is, and she'll do for a "first step."

That Cheshire cat is a smart cookie.  Every adventure requires a first step.

Analogy very much intended. ;)

SOOONNNNN... Booth # 1010

T-Minus 6 days until DesignerCon!!!  I am a little bit giggly... a little bit wide-eyed... and a little bit sweaty. :P  But mostly, I'm quite excited to be able to showcase some pieces and sell some art!

I've also set up my very own online store for the first time EVERRR!!!  Please check it out for a sneak peek of what I'll have at the con.

Thanks to the magic of SQUARE, I will be able to sell prints and originals very very very soon!  The storefront is ready and viewable, but won't be officially open until after Designer Con, so stay tuned!

We are at booth 1010!!!

Diana and I will be towards the back of the hall (booth # 1010).  Hope to see some of y'all there!
