#inktober recap

So this was the first time I've ever participated in Inktober.  I got a bit of a slow start, but it was a lot of fun!  Every October, artists "contribute" and post a drawing a day using traditional ink.  I've posted a few of my favorites below.  And you can also see them all on my Instagram page.

This awesome movement was started in 2009 by Mr. Jake Parker as a personal growth challenge to improve "his inking skills and develop positive drawing habits."  There's some more info on his website here.  I thought it was such a great idea and an awesome reason to challenge myself everyday for 31 days.

Sir Ken Robinson said something in his 2006 TED Talk that really resonated with me... "I believe this passionately, that we don't grow into creativity, we grow out of it."  I have since listened to and watched this talk several times throughout the years, and that quote has stuck with me.  It's been a challenging task to develop and maintain these "positive drawing habits" for me, so having this not-so-daunting 31-day challenge was a great step in the right direction.

Now that Inktober has come to a close, I'm looking to Sketch Dailies for my new daily dose of regular inspiration.  Here's my first attempt at a daily challenge - featuring Grumpy Cat (aka Tardar Sauce) with a little chubby Deadpool.

It's been quite a while since I've drawn on a regular basis (shameful I know!)...  But I'm hoping to continue this great habit of drawing daily.  I may not post all the sketches, but I'll try to be more active on the internets and joining in on all these creative challenges.

Til next time!
